The Inside Out 2 recast has stirred discussions among fans about the replacement voices behind their beloved main characters. Mindy Kaling and Bill Hader played Disgust and Fear, respectively, in the 2015 movie. However, they won’t be returning for Inside Out 2, which is about to hit theatres on June 14. Naturally, fans are curious about the reason the two actors are not a part of the sequel.
So, if you too are wondering why Mindy Kaling and Bill Hader were recast in Inside Out 2, here’s everything you need to know.
Why was Mindy Kaling replaced by Liza Lapira to voice Disgust in Inside Out 2?
Mindy Kaling reportedly departed from Inside Out 2 due to an alleged payment dispute with Disney. Consequently, she was replaced by Liza Lapira.
According to a Puck report, the studio offered lower compensation with no bonuses to other main cast, except Amy Poehler. This is because she plays the central character, Joy. Due to this, Disney is offering Poehler a sum of $5 million, whereas the others are getting just $100,000. Although the studio tried to up the offer, it still couldn’t secure Mindy Kaling’s casting.
Last year, Kaling also confirmed that she wouldn’t be lending her voice to disgust in the sequel, in an interview with The Wrap. She explained how she had a “great time” working on the original Pixar movie and won’t be returning for a second outing. However, Kaling gave out best wishes, saying ” Inside Out 2 will be great.”
Liza Lapira, renowned for the procedural series, NCIS, is set to voice Disgust in the upcoming Inside Out 2. Nevertheless, producer Mark Nielson appreciated the original cast and welcomed new additions in an interview with LADbible.
Nielson said, “It’s been nine years since that first film, and you try to get their original cast back together, but it doesn’t always work out … Man, we love Bill Hader and Mindy Kaling … They’re always going to be part of this Pixar family … But we also love Tony Hale, who was also Forky in ‘Toy Story 4,’ and Liza Lapira.”
Why was Bill Hader replaced by Tony Hale to voice Fear in Inside Out 2?
The same Puck Report also revealed that even Bill Hader will not return for the sequel, following similar payment discrepancy issues with Disney.
Further, the report explained Disney losing out on talented cast members due to its seemingly lower pay. It is also mentioned how Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers also faced a similar instance of less compensation.
Tony Hale has replaced Hader to voice Fear in Inside Out 2. Previously, he worked with Disney’s Pixar on Toy Story 4, where he voiced Forky.
