With the Rust movie’s armorer being sentenced, people are wondering if the film has been canceled entirely. Will it ever come out? Here’s everything you need to know.
Has the Rust movie been canceled?
Alec Baldwin’s upcoming film, Rust has not been canceled yet.
Filming was halted on Rust in 2021 after cinematographer Halyna Hutchins died after being shot by the prop gun that Alec Baldwin fired and he was initially charged with manslaughter. However, the charges were dropped in 2023, and Baldwin returned to the set to finish the production.
However, the fate of the film still hangs in the balance. Despite being completed, it hasn’t been released. In March 2024, the film’s armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, was convicted on the charge of involuntary manslaughter. She is now facing up to 18 months of prison time.
Meanwhile, Baldwin’s charges have been reinstated, to which he has pleaded “not guilty.” His trial will be conducted in July and overseen by Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer, who also oversaw Gutierrez-Reed’s trial. So, the fate of Rust will likely only be decided after Baldwin’s trial has concluded. A result in his favor could save the film. But it could be canceled if he is found guilty and faces a sentence.
When will Alec Baldwin’s Rust movie come out?
