Curious about whether there’s a Mary & George Season 2 release date? We have all the latest details right here. Created by D. C. Moore, Mary & George is a historical drama series about a mother who orchestrates an affair between her son and King James I of England. The series premiered in the UK on Sky Atlantic on March 5, 2024. Interested in knowing about the possibilities for a sophomore season? This is what we have learned.
Here’s all we know about Mary & George Season 2 and whether or not it’s coming out.
Is there a Mary & George Season 2 release date?
There is no Mary & George Season 2 release date, as D. C. Moore reportedly developed Mary & George as a miniseries.
Several outlets list Mary & George as a miniseries, so it’s unlikely to receive another season. The show is an adaptation of the 2017 book The King’s Assassin: The Fatal Affair of George Villiers and James I by Benjamin Woolley, and that doesn’t have a sequel or a prequel. For season 2 to go into development, Villiers has to write another book, or the scriptwriters have to come up with an original story.
By the end of the seventh and final episode, Mary & George finishes the story it sets out to tell. James (spoilers warning) recognizes George’s obsession with violence and war and orders his execution. However, George eventually suffocates the king to death. He himself dies a few years later when a disillusioned former soldier stabs him.
The cast of Mary & George includes Julianne Moore as Mary Villiers, Nicholas Galitzine as George Villiers, Tony Curran as James I, Sean Gilder as Sir Thomas Compton, and Laurie Davidson as Robert Carr.
Why Mary & George Season 2 might not be happening
Mary & George Season 2 probably isn’t coming out because, as mentioned above, the series was developed as a miniseries. ComingSoon will provide an update if things change and Sky Atlantic announces another season of the series.
The official synopsis for Mary & George reads:
“In 17th century England, Mary Villiers molds her beautiful son, George, to seduce King James I, intending to gain riches and influence through outrageous schemes.”
