The Apothecary Diaries is a historical fiction anime TV show based on the light novel series written by Natsu Hyūga and illustrated by Touko Shino. The plot is set in a fictional rendition of Ming-era China and revolves around Maomao, a young apothecary who grew up in the pleasure district with her father. After she is forcefully brought to the palace, she has little choice but to accept her fate and embrace her life as the palace apothecary.
