For a long time, fans have pondered over the rating of Deadpool & Wolverine and the recent trailer drop has only heightened curiosity. Will the film be rated R? Will it have violence and cursing? Here is all you need to know.
Will Deadpool & Wolverine be Rated R?
Yes, Deadpool & Wolverine will be rated R.
Although the recently released trailer explicitly stated that the film was not yet rated. Fans need not worry about Deadpool & Wolverine being potentially watered down to the PG-13 level as both director Shawn Levy and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige have confirmed in separate interviews that the film will be rated R.
For instance, Shawn Levy in a 2023 interview with Deadline firmly stated that he was not “going to mess with the DNA of that franchise”. Thus, implying that the film will be rated R like its predecessors.
Kevin Feige, also confirmed in a 2023 Variety interview, that the film would be rated R and stated that Deadpool & Wolverine would be Marvel Studios and Disney’s first R-rated project.
Will Deadpool & Wolverine have violence and cursing?
Deadpool & Wolverine will very likely have violence and cursing if the film is rated R.
The recently released trailer teased plenty of violence that has never been seen before in the MCU and also cursing, with Deadpool being shown at one point reacting to something awful with the line “Oh my f***”. Certain shots in the trailer seemingly looked and felt adult-oriented, in particular bits of Deadpool being suited up.
It seems with Deadpool & Wolverine being Marvel Studios’ first R-rated project, the studio has now developed an interest in doing more projects with more mature and adult-oriented tones. Another indication of this is Yann Demange, the director of the Blade MCU reboot confirming that the film will be R-rated in an interview with Deadline.
