Is Argylle in the Kingsman Universe? Mid-credits Scene Explained

Watching Argylle, many fans were left asking if the film is connected to the Kingsman universe. Dive into our explanation for the connection and the film’s mid-credits scene.

How is Argylle connected and linked to Kingsman?

Argylle’s final scene reveals a flashback with the real Agent Aubrey Argylle, making him a part of the Kingsman organization.

This end credits scene takes place 20 years before the present day and is set in a bar that’s shockingly called “The King’s Man”. This is how the movie connects Argylle to Matthew Vaughn’s Kingsman Universe.

This connection becomes possible because even though 20th Century Studios (Now Disney) distributed the Kingsman movies, Vaughn’s company Marv Studios produced and owns them. Marv Studios also produced Argylle alongside Universal and Apple, so linking the two universes to surprise the fans was easy.

Argylle’s mid-credits scene explained

The mid-credits sequence of Argylle teases how the real Aubrey Argylle became an agent of the Kingsman organization.

It shows the younger version of Henry Cavill’s real Agent Argylle (played by Louis Partridge) who was revealed at the end of the film. In “The King’s Man” bar, the young man walks up to the bartender and asks for a “cosmopolitan with a twist.” Upon being denied, he instructs the bartender to “Hold the Cointreau. And the cranberry juice. And the vodka. Just the twist.”

This line is a reference to James Bond’s famous Martinis which are supposed to be “shaken, not stirred”. But it’s also code for the bartender, who then hands the young man a pistol within a fancy box. He asks the young man’s name, which the latter reveals to be Aubrey Argylle.

Even though Elly Conway wrote the Argylle character based on her own past as Rachel R. Kylle, this young man is coincidentally the real version of the character whose older version is played by Henry Cavill. Right after this reveal, the screen shows the text – “Argylle: Book One — The Movie — Coming Soon,” announcing the next film in the franchise.

As per Matthew Vaughn, this will be a prequel. He told Total Film that he hopes to see two Argylle sequels saying:

“Book one is about: how did Argylle become a spy? That will be the next film. And then Argylle 2 is – I don’t want to give it all away, but there’s the young Argylle, and that becomes Henry, because Henry loves the idea of doing a proper Argylle movie as well.”

If the aforementioned prequel happens then it would show the past of the real Argylle. It will also establish his connections to the Kingsman organization. Following that, we’d get Argylle 2 based on the film’s ending. In it, Cavill’s older Argylle would team up with Elly/Rachel and Aiden in the present day and explain why Elly’s sub-conscience made her see the real Argylle’s face even though her character was inspired by her own past life story.
