Thunderbolts has reportedly added Geraldine Viswanathan to the cast to replace Ayo Edebiri. But after the recasting, many fans are wondering which character Viswanathan is set to play. Will she be a hero or a villain? Here’s all you need to know.
Which hero or villain could Geraldine Viswanathan be playing in Thunderbolts?
While Geraldine Viswanathan’s character hasn’t been revealed yet, she is speculated to either play a villainous role or the love interest of Robert Reynolds.
The Thunderbolts squad is confirmed to feature Yelena Belova’s Black Widow, the Winter Solider, US Agent, Red Guardian, Taskmaster, and Ghost, with the Sentry also being a part of the team for a short while. Since the squad is already stacked, the mystery role of Geraldine Viswanathan could be an antagonist.
In the past, Daniel RPK reported that a “high-tech militia” group is said to involve some secondary villains in the film. So, Geraldine Viswanathan could be a part of that group, with her Marvel character being among the likes of Jolt, Moonstone, or Songbird.
But another crucial supporting role in the film could be Robert Reynolds’ wife, Lindy Lee, from the comics. So, it is possible that Geraldine Viswanathan could be playing the romantic interest of the Sentry, who is now being played by Lewis Pullman.
Why did Geraldine Viswanathan replace Ayo Edebiri in Thunderbolts?
Ayo Edebiri reportedly left Thunderbolts due to scheduling conflicts.
The MCU’s Thunderbolts was supposed to be filmed in late 2023 and arrive in December 2024. But the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes led to a delay in production, pushing it to 2024. This caused scheduling conflicts for actor Steven Yeun, who had to drop out due to other commitments.
Similarly, Ayo Edebiri also couldn’t stick around to portray her mystery character in Thunderbolts. It’ll be interesting to see if she gets added to a future MCU project later down the line.
Thunderbolts is scheduled to arrive on July 25, 2025.
