Based on the eponymous character by American author Dashiell Hammett, Monsieur Spade is an American-French neo-noir series airing on AMC. Set in the ’60s, the plot revolves around Detective Sam Spade as he is forced to come out of retirement after his old adversary allegedly resurfaces. If you are wondering whether there will be a second season of Monsieur Spade, this is what we have discovered.
Here’s all we know about Monsieur Spade Season 2 and whether or not it’s coming out.
Is there a Monsieur Spade Season 2 release date?
Monsieur Spade Season 2 does not have an official release date, but the possibility of it happening can’t be entirely ruled out.
Multiple outlets report that Monsieur Spade is a six-episode limited series. While there are a considerable number of examples of shows that were developed as a limited series but later became multi-seasonal projects, we will not know whether Monsieur Spade will fall into that category until at least the end of the first season, which is currently ongoing.
As a character, Monsieur Spade had an immense impact on detective fiction as a genre, though he only appears in one book, Dashiell Hammett’s novel The Maltese Falcon (1930), in which he is a private detective in San Francisco. In Monsieur Spade, the titular character is enjoying his retirement in Bozouls, France, when the story begins. As the series effectively serves as a sequel to the original book, it isn’t limited by constraints that any adaptation of the former would be. So, a second season is theoretically possible as of January 2024. Again, we will know more once the first season finishes airing.
In an interview with Los Angeles Times, Clive Owen reflected on the prospects of Season 2. “Scott [Frank] and I both loved it so much,” the actor said. “I think we want to wait and see how this goes, but we’ve already talked about ideas.” Series co-creator Scott Frank echoed Owen’s sentiments. “There’s certainly a lot of different things you could do with this character,” he stated. “It would be a fun sandbox to revisit.”
Like always, the decision to renew Monsieur Spade for the sophomore season significantly depends upon how the first season performs with the viewers. ComingSoon will provide an update if the second season is ever greenlit.
The cast includes Clive Owen as Sam Spade, Cara Bossom as Teresa, Denis Ménochet as Chief of Police Patrice Michaud, Louise Bourgoin as Marguerite Devereaux, Chiara Mastroianni as Gabrielle, Stanley Weber as Jean-Pierre Devereaux, Matthew Beard as George Fitzsimmons, Jonathan Zaccaï as Philippe Saint Andre, Rebecca Root as Cynthia Fitzsimmons, and more.
The official synopsis for Monsieur Spade reads:
“Detective Sam Spade is pulled out of his tranquil retirement in France to investigate a series of brutal murders.”
