Will Tom Cruise return in Top Gun 3?
Tom Cruise is reported to be back as Maverick in the upcoming Top Gun threequel.
After Top Gun: Maverick’s massive box office success, Top Gun 3 was a no-brainer. Now, according to Matt Belloni’s ‘What I’m Hearing’ newsletter for Puck, Paramount is actively developing the third film. It will feature Cruise as Pete Mitchell and Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski is also wanted to return. He will also co-produce the film alongside Jerry Bruckheimer and David Ellison.
Since Cruise produces most of his films, we could also expect him to be involved as one of the producers as well. Furthermore, Ehren Kruger who co-wrote the previous installment is currently reported to be working on a script for the threequel.
Will Miles Teller and Glen Powell be in Top Gun 3?
Yes, both Miles Teller and Glen Powell are reported to return as Rooster and Hangman, respectively.
According to Belloni, they’ll be joining Cruise after playing crucial roles in the previous outing. While Teller’s Rooster already had a significant story arc in Top Gun: Maverick, we could expect Powell’s Hangman to get a bigger arc this time around. Starring in the threequel, Cruise’s Maverick might even hand over the franchise to Teller and Powell.
But with the veteran also signing a deal to produce and star in movies for Warner Bros. Discovery, it’ll be interesting to see if Top Gun 3 would be a priority for him. After all, he is also expected to star in his special Space-based project and return in Edge of Tomorrow 2.
