As of this publishing, a Lethal Weapon 5 has not been confirmed, let alone Mel Gibson’s return as LAPD detective Martin Riggs. However, according to semi-reliable industry insider Daniel RPK via his Patreon, not only is a Lethal Weapon 5 reportedly in the works and expected to start shooting in 2024 but Gibson is also set to direct the film and also reprise his role of Riggs. However, take all of this with a huge grain of salt as nothing has been officially confirmed by Warner Bros. or Gibson himself.
Despite the lack of confirmation, Gibson did reveal in a London interview in November 2021 (via Deadline) that he was in talks to helm Lethal Weapon 5 and also direct the film to honor his friend and original franchise producer Richard Donner, who passed away in July 2021. Later in 2022, Gibson also expressed confidence in a Screenrant interview that the film could arrive in 2023. However, as of December, no updates have been offered regarding the sequel aside from Daniel RPK’s scoop.
