With Family Switch engaging the interest of many Netflix subscribers, an unforeseen incest controversy has attached itself to the film. Quite a few viewers have been left disturbed by a particular kissing scene in the film and here’s all you need to know about the drama surrounding it.
What is the kissing scene in Family Switch on Netflix?
Family Switch’s premise switches the bodies of two parents with their two children. So a moment when Ed Helms’ and Jennifer Garner’s characters are made to kiss has caused controversy as the kiss effectively happens between characters who are brother and sister.
Family Switch follows the Walker family. As its title suggests, the whole premise of the film revolves around switching the bodies of the Walker family members. So, after a planetary alignment event, the two Walker siblings, CC and Wyatt switch their bodies with their parents, Jess and Bill, respectively, and the parents take up their kids’ bodies.
After the switch, Jess and Bill have to attend a party as CC and Wyatt, while the two siblings have to stay home as their parents. But then, multiple moms from Jess’ supper club show up for their monthly meeting, and Bill and Jess (really CC and Wyatt) are made to kiss.
Why do the brother and sister kiss in Family Switch?
The moms in Jess’ supper club suspect that her marriage with Bill is failing. So, to fix their relationship, the moms push them to kiss each other. But having switched bodies, it’s CC and Wyatt who kiss in front of them.
The scene itself is intentionally awkward. But many Netflix subscribers were disturbed by it. Here’s how viewers reacted to it:
A consensus among many critics of the scene is that the comedy did not work and they felt the film could have done without it as it was incompatible with the rest of the movie’s tone and style.
