Aquaman 2 brings Mera back along with Aruther, but fans are interested to know about Amber Heard’s screen time in the movie. How long does she appear for? Has she been completely removed from Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom? Here’s all you need to know.
What is Amber Heard’s original and revised screen time as Mera in Aquaman 2?
While the marketing barely shows Amber Heard’s Mera, she is still rumored to appear for around 20 minutes in the movie. However, her original screen time was supposed to be much longer.
During her court hearing in the defamation trial against Johnny Depp, Amber Heard revealed that her role as Mera was significantly lessened in Aquaman 2. She stated that she fought hard to stay in the movie and revealed that a big chunk of her role was taken out when she got revised versions of the film’s script.
Back in August 2022, Fandango’s Erik Davis and The Wrap’s Umberto Gonzalez discussed Amber Heard’s role in The Lost Kingdom on Twitter. When asked about whether Mera is in the film, the latter revealed:
“Yeah it is. She’s still a part of it. They’re not just going to like, erase her outright, either. She’s barely in the movie. She’s in it for like, according to one of my sources, she’s in it for about 20 minutes or so. I don’t know if that remains or if it gets more or if it’s lessened… Anything could happen between now and the time that movie is released, so yeah.”
Considering that the Aquaman 2 trailers have barely shown any footage of Mera besides confirming her existence, her role may have diminished even further.
Mera had a sizable gig in the first Aquaman and was arguably a co-lead besides Jason Momoa and Patrick Wilson. So, the extent of her role was expected to be similar in the sequel as well. This does not seem to be the case.
The reasoning for Mera’s reduced presence, according to former DC President Walter Hamada, was that Mera’s chemistry with Aquaman didn’t work in the first film. So, the sequel became more about Arthur and his brother, Orm, with the two going on a journey to save Atlantis against Black Manta and the curse of his newfound Black Trident.
