The latest trailer for The Marvels has viewers asking “Will Thanos return to the MCU?” Here’s all you need to know about the big villain’s potential return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Is Thanos in The Marvels?
A new teaser of The Marvels uses an unused line of Thanos from the past, but he still may not be a part of the film.
In the above trailer, we do not see any new footage of Thanos, but we hear his dialogue from Avengers: Endgame and a new unheard line where he says, “There will always be more to finish my work.” So, does this mean that Thanos could be back in The Marvels? Probably not!
This dialogue could come from a flashback sequence involving Thanos. However, it’s more likely that Marvel is reusing an old deleted quote from the Mad Titan. Misdirects in trailers have been used plenty of times in the past, and this could be another one of those to hype up The Marvels and Zawe Ashton’s Dar-Benn. After all, the film likely needs more attraction with the cast not being able to promote it.
Recent rumors also suggested that Marvel added a last-minute surprise towards the end of The Marvels. Could that be Thanos?
Thanos has already died in the MCU twice and his return in The Marvels might feel out of place. However, it could happen in the future.
When will Thanos return in the MCU?
Thanos could be seen in future projects such as What If…? Season 2, Eternals 2, and one of the two Avengers movies, but almost certainly not as the main villain.
Thanos’ villainous arc is done, but he could return as a character that amplifies the hype for future projects. What If…? Season 1 used him perfectly, so he could be back in a similar fashion for Season 2. Meanwhile, Eternals 2 is expected to showcase his backstory along with Starfox.
