With the third film in the franchise scoring big, The Equalizer 4’s release date is hotly anticipated by many Denzel Washington fans. The R-rated threequel totally changed the landscape of the franchise by putting Robert McCall in southern Italy for the entire film. Fate brought him here, and as he took a liking to the town, he became its protector against the local Mafia. But will he be back for another outing in the franchise?
Here’s all of The Equalizer 4 release date information we know so far, and all the details on when it is coming out.
Is there a The Equalizer 4 release date?
There is no The Equalizer 4 release date as both Denzel Washington and director Antoine Fuqua confirmed it to be the last outing for Robert McCall. But the franchise might still continue.
In an interview with Digital Spy, Fuqua said “this is it,” when asked about the possibility of Robert McCall’s return. To add to that, Denzel Washington told ET at 2023’s CinemaCon:
“This is the end for me. It may not be the end, they may do another one, but it’s the end for me.”
So, we shouldn’t expect another direct sequel to the film any time soon. However, Fuqua did tease the potential of a spinoff with Dakota Fanning’s character, Emma Collins. He also talked about an idea he had for a prequel story with a de-aged Denzel Washington playing young Robert McCall. But it will be a while for any of those ideas to be materialized.
With the kind of critical and commercial performance that the third movie has delivered, Sony might want to continue the franchise for sure. But with Denzel probably being done with the role, his son John David Washington could get recast as the younger version of Robert McCall in a prequel to the trilogy. This may prove to be a more practical solution than digitally de-aging Denzel Washington, which would certainly raise the film’s budget. But how Sony handles the continuation remains to be seen.
Besides Denzel Washington’s Robert McCall, The Equalizer 3 stars Dakota Fanning as Emma Collins, Sonia Ammar as Chiara, Gaia Scodellaro as Aminah, and David Denman as Frank Conroy.
