Portrayed by Academy Award-winner Olivia Colman, Sonya Falsworth stands among the many characters featured in the Secret Invasion episode 1. But who is this Marvel character? Who’s Sonya Falsworth in Secret Invasion?
Sonya Falsworth is a brand-new character introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
While Sonya is an MCU original, Falsworth is a name that already recurred. One of the characters in Captain America: The First Avenger goes by James Montgomery Falsworth, a British soldier who fought side-by-side with Steve Rogers in the Howling Commandos. The chances that James Montgomery and Sonya are related (is Sonya his granddaughter?) are very high, but only up for speculation for now.
Still, fans curious about Falsworth’s background must patiently wait until the series unveils new details. She was introduced as an MI6 agent with a long history with Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson). The story didn’t reveal how the pair knew each other, but Fury seemed comfortable in her presence. The former Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. even activated a microcamera in Falsworth’s office, implying he knew she wouldn’t detect it. Apparently, Fury and Falsworth are frenemies with different methods to protect Earth from the Skrull separatists.
In many interviews, Colman stated Sonya Falsworth doesn’t have superpowers. Still, many Marvel characters can do exceptional deeds even without super strength or endurance. Think of Fury himself. The storyline featuring Skrulls taking over Earth will offer plenty of chances for Sonya to showcase her exceptionality.

Over the years, she portrayed many characters related to British royalty, including Queen Anne in The Favourite, Queen Elizabeth in Hyde Park on Hudson, and Queen Elizabeth II in The Crown, among many other roles.
