A new Supergirl movie release date could be announced as soon as 2024, depending on the direction that James Gunn takes the DCU in.
With James Gunn taking over the reins of the DCU, it will be largely up to him and Warner Bros. executives whether or not Supergirl returns for her own movie. It’s also possible that Supergirl will pop up in another hero’s movie, just as Sasha Calle’s version did in The Flash.
On top of playing Supergirl again, Sasha Calle has expressed that she hopes to continue playing the hero. She stated: “I feel like this is a runway to a bigger story. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, by Tom King, is an incredible comic. I love it. I think it’s so cool. So yeah, I would hope to continue. I hope to continue playing Supergirl for sure.”
If the reaction to Supergirl’s appearance in The Flash is positive enough, perhaps James Gunn and other execs will consider giving the hero her own movie. If so, an announcement could come as soon as 2024.
