The demons are taking a longer time to regenerate. Tanjiro realizes there is a fifth demon, and rushes to find it. Genya tells Tanjiro he’ll be the one to defeat an Upper Rank. The demons regenerate, and Tanjiro, Genya, and Nezuko fend them off. Tanjiro tells Genya to look for the fifth demon, guiding him with his sense of smell. Meanwhile, Muichiro is still trapped inside Gyokko’s water prison.
Tanjiro and Nezuko cover for Genya while he’s on the move. Eventually, he spots Hantengu in his tiny form. However, he is unable to behead Hantengu. Sekido suddenly appears behind Genya, ready to attack. Genya reminisces about his childhood. His father was abusive to their family and eventually died after getting stabbed to death. Meanwhile, his mother was always working. One night, Sanemi left the house to look for their mother. Sanemi and Genya promised to each other that they will watch over the family.
Suddenly, a demon attacked and killed all of their younger siblings. Genya runs off to get help but sees Sanemi and realizes he killed their mother, who turned into a demon. At present, Genya thinks he will never be able to apologize to his brother. Tanjiro slashes Sekido’s arm and tells Genya not to give up. Suddenly, Aizetsu attacks, but Genya shields Tanjiro from it. Tanjiro then runs off to look for Hantengu.
