People were shocked after learning about the knife attack that took place at a dance studio in Hart Street, Southport, UK, on Monday, July 29. As the studio was holding a Taylor Swift-themed event, they want to know how the pop star reacted to the incident.
Here is what we have learned about the stabbing incident in question and how Swift has reacted to it.
What happened at the Taylor Swift dance class in Southport?
According to BBC, the police described the incident as a “ferocious knife attack,” which took place a street away from a nursery. The same report states that 11 children were attacked. Of the 11, 3 children were killed, and 5 others are in critical condition. Two adults also sustained serious injuries.
The authorities are not considering the attack as terror-related. A 17-year-old boy has been apprehended by the police in connection to the attack. BBC reports that his parents came from Rwanda. The boy was born in Cardiff and later moved to Banks in Lancashire.
The local MP, Patrick Hurley, told BBC that he was returning from Westminster to “support those affected by the attack.” He offered his thanks to the local community for “sticking together.”
How did Taylor Swift react to the stabbing attack?
Swift took to Instagram to express her shock and grief over the incident. “The horror of yesterday’s attack in Southport is washing over me continuously, and I’m just completely in shock,” a post on her Instagram story read. “The loss of life and the innocence, and the horrendous trauma inflicted on everyone who was there, the families, and first responders. These were just little kids at a dance class. I am at a complete loss for how to ever convey my sympathies to these families.” (via CBS News)
The fans of the singer have launched the online fundraiser Swifties for Southport. It has raised a little over $115,000 at the time of writing this piece.
