Fans have been curious about the asterisk after Thunderbolts* after Marvel teased a new title for the movie, and are wondering why the star sign was added. The reason behind the asterisk wasn’t revealed at the SDCC panel, so many theories are going around speculating the meaning of the title Thunderbolts Asterisk. Here’s a breakdown of some of the popular ideas so far.
Why does the Thunderbolts* title have an asterisk sign?
The significance behind the asterisk in the title Thunderbolts* has stirred numerous conversations on social media. However, Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige didn’t clarify the reason behind the asterisk in the title. At the SDCC during the Thunderbolts* slate in Hall H, the host asked the director of the movie, Jake Schreier about the asterisk, which can be seen in the clip posted by Films That Rock. With a pause Schreier looks at Feige for permission to tell the audience. However, the Marvel boss denies it, saying fans can get to know the meaning behind the Asterisk in the movie, hinting that it is connected to a spoiler in the movie.
Why is the Thunderbolts team called that?
Since the announcement of the movie Thunderbolts* at Comic-Con 2022, fans have been hoping to see Harrison Ford’s Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross appear in it, in his Red Hulk form, considering the team’s name coincides with his name. However, at the 2024 SDCC, Kevin Fiege stomped on all those hopes, by confirming to the host that Thunderbolt Ross is not going to be a part of the movie. He confirmed Thunderbolts* Asterisk is not named after the character of Thunderbolt Ross.
On the other hand, this might be a hint at the team might not stay the Thunderbolts for long. An asterisk commonly indicates a footnote. So, it might indicate that though the team is named the Thunderbolts in the movie, they may be changing their name to Dark Avengers following the storyline from the comic books by the conclusion.
