After much teasing yesterday, Bethesda Softworks has announced the next entry in the Fallout franchise with Fallout 76! Check out the teaser trailer for the game in the player below!
Further details on Fallout 76 will be announced during this year’s Bethesda E3 Showcase happening on June 10th at 6:30pm PT in Los Angeles, CA. You can tune into that broadcast live here!
What we can glean about the game however is the setting. Vault 76 was previously mentioned in other Fallout titles, including Fallout 3 and 4, and unlike many of the Vault-Tec vaults, was not set to engage in a horrific experiment on its inhabitants. The vault was opened and named in 2076, to mark the tricentennial of the United States of America, and was housed near Washington, D.C. (which happens to be close to both West Virginia, as name dropped in the song featured in the trailer, and Bethesda’s headquarters in Maryland).
Furthermore, the timeline of the game can also be extrapolated as the Pip-Boy seen in the trailer at :29 has the date October 27, 2102 written on it. During that time frame in the context of the entire Fallout series, Doctor Richard Grey became known as The Master and started his ascension into the primary antagonist of the series.
