Arc System Works announces Double Dragon Revive

Double Dragon Revive Trailer Reveals Beat ‘Em Up Coming Next Year

Update: An official teaser trailer has been released. Check it out below.

A legendary beat ’em up series returns with the announcement of Double Dragon Revive. Developed by Yuke’s and published by Arc System Works, the new game comes to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in 2025.

What is Double Dragon Revive?

Guilty Gear Strive publisher Arc System Works revealed Double Dragon Revive to the Japanese publication Famitsu. Protagonists Billy and Jimmy return with modern graphics alongside recurring enemies like Roper and Abobo. The characters have undergone significant redesigns for the new game. Billy, for example, is back to being blond, as he was in the original. Meanwhile, the brothers’ blue and red color schemes are now interpreted as a jean jacket and a red motorcycle jacket.

“This work faithfully reproduces the real thrill of the belt scrolling while adjusting the control feel and difficulty level to suit modern times,” reads the Famitsu article via Google Translate. Classic mechanics like the ability to pick up dropped enemy weapons return in the upcoming game.

The original Double Dragon was released as an arcade game from Technōs Japan in 1987. It sees twin brothers Jimmy and Billy Lee battling the Black Warriors Gang to rescue Billy’s girlfriend, Marian. The most recent installment was 2023’s Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons, a roguelike spinoff set in a post-apocalyptic version of 1990s New York. The side-scrolling brawlers featured Jimmy, Billy, Marian, and the brother’s Uncle Matin as playable characters. It’s Sacred Reunion DLC, released in April 2024. However, while Rise of the Dragons featured retro-inspired 2D sprites, Double Dragon Revive embraces more modern 3D graphics.
