The Xbox Showcase on Sunday featured an assortment of game trailers including a new story trailer for Obsidian Entertainment’s Avowed, with its release date revealed in a pair of blog posts. However, Obsidian later edited the posts to remove the date, leaving fans to wonder if it was accurate.
What was the announced Avowed release date?
Obsidian Entertainment’s blog post previously listed Avowed’s release date as November 12, 2024. Fans can see a snippet of the original text in a post from the gaming news Twitter account HazzadorGamin. However, both Obsidian’s blog post and the longer Xbox Wire post have since been edited to remove the date.
“Since we saw you at the Xbox Developer Direct this past January,” Game Director Carrie Patel originally said, “we’ve been busy with Avowed Getting it ready for release on November 12, 2024.” However, the quote on Xbox Wire now says, “release in 2024,” while the version on Obsidian Entertainment’s website cuts off after “Avowed.”
The quiet deletion of Avowed’s release date is peculiar and raises questions about what’s happening behind the scenes. However, it’s noteworthy that the game’s director was confident enough to give a specific date. Even if the date changes between now and the official announcement, it’s strong evidence for the game’s release this fall.
Obsidian released the blog posts alongside Avowed’s story trailer at Sunday’s Xbox Showcase, which teased the game’s central conflict. The Xbox Wire post offers some information about the three characters speaking in the trailer, including the player’s spellcaster companion, Giatta. An expert in soul energy, she’s one of four companions who will accompany the player on their quest.
