Hades 2, the sequel to Supergiant Game’s action roguelike, is available now in early access. Fans who want to play early can pick it up for $30 from Steam and the Epic Games Store. While the current version is still missing a few essential pieces, it still has plenty of content for players to explore.
Hades 2 out now in early access on PC
Supergiant held a technical test for Hades 2 last month and promised the beta would come “relatively soon after.” The studio isn’t sure exactly when the 1.0 version will be ready but says the first significant update should arrive in the next few months. After that, developers expect the game to stay in early access “at least through the end of 2024.” Supergiant says it will need that long to implement all of Hades 2’s planned features.
The studio didn’t give a complete list of what’s missing from the early access version of Hades 2. However, players must wait for the 1.0 version to unlock the game’s true ending. That said, Supergiant says it already features “more environments, foes, and fully-voiced characters than the full version of the original game.” The studio also points out that players who give feedback on the early access release will influence how the game develops.
Hades 2 casts players as Melinoë, the Princess of the Underworld and sister to the first game’s protagonist, Zagreus. Armed with legendary magic weapons and ancient magic, she embarks on a quest to defeat Chronos, the God of Time. While featuring many of the same elements, it introduces new mechanics, such as a limited mana pool. While Supergiant plans to bring Hades 2 to other systems eventually, it will stay a PC exclusive for some time.
