Hell is about to look a lot better. The long-awaited Doom Eternal PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC upgrades finally have a release date. The more advanced versions of the 2020 shooter will come out on June 29 and will be free for those who already own the game.
But it won’t be equal for everyone as id also announced the differences in each of the three modes for every system. While the options PC players will have will depend on their rigs, console owners will have to pick and choose.
Xbox Series X
- Performance Mode: 1800p – 120 FPS
- Balanced Mode: 2160p – 60 FPS
- Ray Tracing Mode: 1800p – 60 FPS
Xbox Series S
- Performance Mode: 1080p – 120 FPS
- Balanced Mode: 1440p – 60 FPS
- Ray Tracing Mode: Not Available
PlayStation 5
- Performance Mode: 1584p – 120 FPS
- Balanced Mode: 2160p – 60 FPS
- Ray Tracing Mode: 1800p – 60 FPS
As the above video and specs reveal, ray tracing is the game’s biggest new feature. Only some current-gen upgrades like Control Ultimate Edition, Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition, and Spider-Man Remastered even have ray tracing so Doom Eternal getting it is somewhat rare. The enhanced versions were originally announced in August 2020 and id was not specific about its plans until the above NVIDIA released the above trailer from last week teased its impending release. Microsoft’s E3 2021 press conference then gave a date, but not many specifics.

Smart Delivery will take care of Xbox owners and PS5 players will just have to redeem the “free” PS5 version on the PlayStation Store when the time arrives. PS4 or Xbox One owners with the disc version of the game will still have to keep their disc around to play the new port, but those with discs and digital-only current-gen systems are out of luck. That’s usually the case as Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order was an anomaly.

All purchased and acquired DLC will carry over, too. Saves are a little more dicey. Xbox players will get their saves without any trouble, but PS5 users will only keep their online progression and lose their campaign save data. It’ll almost assuredly have a new trophy list so some may see this as some sort of upside. However, it is not clear if cosmetics from events will carry over.
