Nintendo dropped a new Mario Kart 8 Deluxe patch for the Switch smash hit this morning.

That wouldn’t really be newsworthy for most games, but Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s last patch was released over two years ago. Naturally, this led many to believe that Nintendo had essentially drawn a line under the game, leaving two somewhat annoying issues unfixed.
Patch 1.7.2, as it is charmingly named, fixes two score reset bugs that have persisted since launch. The first caused tournament scores to reset at random, and the second saw players’ match history with their friends wiped out for no good reason. Now players won’t have to worry about that occurring in the future thanks to the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe patch.

Even though the game is over four years old now, Mario Kart 8 is a staple for players who are new to the Nintendo Switch. If you can believe it, the game was only beaten in the annual retail sales charts in Europe by FIFA 21 and Animal Crossing: New Horizons last year. Despite having origins on the Wii U, it remains a best seller for Nintendo, which is why there hasn’t been a proper new entry in the series this generation.
