Seth Kearsley, the director and producer of 2003’s scrapped Kingdom Hearts animated series, has uploaded an animatic for the pilot episode of the series to his YouTube channel.

The animatic is a loose adaptation of parts of the first Kingdom Hearts game. It shows Sora on the Destiny Islands with his friends Kairi and Riku as the world falls to darkness, then follows Sora, Donald, and Goofy in Aladdin‘s Agrabah as the three of them battle the Heartless and explore the Cave of Wonders with Riku.

Notably, the animatic seems to feature the main voice cast from Kingdom Hearts, with Haley Joel Osment, David Gallagher, and Hayden Panettiere returning alongside numerous classic Disney voice actors. Until now, fans had only seen a few images from 2003’s scrapped Kingdom Hearts series, so this release is quite notable.

You may also know Seth Kearsley as the director of Eight Crazy Nights, as well as episodes of Trolls: TrollsTopia and the Where’s Waldo? animated series. Though the Kingdom Hearts animated series was scrapped, the video game series went on to maintain its popularity, with protagonist Sora even being added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in late 2021.
