As the upcoming live action Avengers movie approaches, it becomes more and more apparent how key this cartoon series is to indoctrinating young fans to the super team. Already fans of Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and Hulk from the movies, this fills in that demand for more of the characters until the movie comes along. By the time it arrives, a lot of young fans are going to be familiar with the storylines, the team dynamics, and the lesser known characters from this cartoon series, not the comics.

As a fan of the Marvel comics, it’s cool to see little things here and there from the books included in the cartoon. You see villains like Kang and Ultron. You get heroes like Black Panther and Ant Man. You see S.H.I.E.L.D. and Maria Hill. All this being said, this animated series is geared more towards kids than it is older fans. The action scenes are pretty spectacular, but in-between them you get the characters acting as comic relief. I think this ultimately alienates older fans, but they were never the target audience to begin with.

If you’re a fan of Avengers and/or you have young comic fans in the house, then these DVD’s are worth picking up. Then again, you might want to wait until they’re all collected into one Season One set together.

These DVD’s each have one lone bonus feature. It’s an episode of the show with pop-up trivia played alongside. It talks about the comics, the character backgrounds, and other fun things while showing art from the comics. It’s a little interesting but nothing remarkable.
