Synopsis:

The following is from the official synopsis of the film:

“Join the cast of ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’ as they dare to bare all in this Unrated Collector’s Edition filled with more laughs, more adventure and way more fun!

Peter (Jason Segel) is a struggling musician who finds his world turned upside down when his TV celebrity girlfriend, Sarah Marshall (Kristen Bell), dumps him for a tragically hip rock star. It’s the hysterically funny look at how far one man will go to forget a girl – and all the fun he finds along the way!”

“Forgetting Sarah Marshall” is rated R for sexual content, language and some graphic nudity.

Mini-Review:

Despite a plot we’ve seen many times in many forms, “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” has many of the familiar elements of a Judd Apatow film – a mix of sex humor and romantic humor, a strong cast of supporting characters, and an Average Joe that ends up being the hero. So if you like films such as “Knocked Up,” “Superbad,” and “The 40-Year-Old Virgin,” chances are you’re going to enjoy “Forgetting Sarah Marshall.”

CS reviewer Ed Douglas compared Jason Segel to a young Tom Hanks, and that’s a pretty good description. Both are average guys, both started out in TV comedies, and both transitioned to the big screen in sex comedies. While it’s hard to imagine Segel winning an Oscar, he does show he can write a script and even compose music. There are a lot of great lines in the film and you’ll probably find the hilariously bad lyrics to the songs stuck in your head for days afterwards. It will be interesting to see what he does in the future. Let’s just hope he does it wearing pants. As you’ve probably heard, he does repeated full frontal nudity in the movie and I have to say it was something I never want to see again.

The rest of the cast does a good job, too. Kristen Bell proves she can handle comedy. Her clips from the “CSI”-parody are really funny as well as her scenes with Snow. Russell Brand comes out of nowhere and knock it out of the park as Aldous Snow, the eccentric British rock star. He’s the complete opposite of Peter, yet you see why Sarah Marshall might be easily seduced by him. Mila Kunis delivers her most memorable on-screen performance as Rachel Jansen. Then there are all the cameos by Apatow veterans like Bill Hader, Jonah Hill and Paul Rudd. All of them add a lot of laughs to the movie.

If you’re an established fan of these romantic / raunchy comedies, then “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” is a film that you’re going to enjoy.

This Collector’s Edition of “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” has an insane number of bonus features. You get a digital copy of the film, a theatrical version, and the unrated version. Then you get all sorts of deleted scenes, alternate takes of scenes, and featurettes. Among the deleted scenes, I loved one featuring Kristen Bell as Sarah Marshall on a “runaway” horse. She goes into progressive layers of meltdown as the horse keeps slowly wandering all over the resort with her stranded on its back. Another notable bonus feature are various alternate versions of Marshall’s TV show. We see a cop drama with an angel, a ghost, and other bizarre pairings. In the featurette “The Letter U,” we get to see Snow paired with a child and a puppet in a parody of the rock star appearances on Sesame Street. It’s bizarre, but funny. I also enjoyed seeing the Henson puppeteers creating the Dracula opera in “A Taste For Love.” Overall, these bonus features cover just about every possible aspect of the making of the film that you could imagine.
