Paramount Home Entertainment’s Team America: World Police, from “South Park” creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, beat out the horror hit White Noise in the first-week face-off even though it earned nearly $25 million less at the box office.
The Hollywood Reporter says the unrated version of “Team America” handily outsold the rated version by a margin of 5 to 1, underscoring the film’s appeal to the lucrative young-male demographic.
White Noise, from Universal Studios Home Entertainment, did take the top spot on Home Media Retailing’s rental charts for the week ending May 22, though its first-week rental gross of $7.2 million was just a little more than Disney’s National Treasure earned its third week out.
“Seinfeld: Season 4” made a strong First Alert showing its first week in stores, debuting at No. 4 ahead of New Line’s Son of the Mask.
