Buena Vista Home Entertainment has sold an estimated 17 million DVDs and Videos of Pixar’s Finding Nemo in its first week of release.
There’s a strong chance it will sell more than 25 million copies domestically, which would place it among the top-selling video titles of all time. It may even poise the film to take a run at the 30 million mark, just shy of the 32 million copies Disney sold of The Lion King.
Of the sales so far, about 80%, or 13.5 million, have been in the DVD format. “Nemo” is the top box office hit of 2003 so far, with domestic ticket sales of more than $339 million.
