Box office hit Wedding Crashers rose to the top of both the DVD sales and rental charts its first week out, says The Hollywood Reporter.
Three of the top five DVD sellers on VideoScan’s First Alert chart in the week ended Jan 8. were R-rated comedies: The 40-Year-Old Virgin held at No. 2 after nearly a month in stores; and last week’s champ, the direct-to-video sequel American Pie Presents: Band Camp fell to No. 5.
Two other new releases made impressive debuts on the sales chart: The Gospel at No. 3 and the horror film The Cave at No. 4.
On trade publication Home Media Retailing’s video rental chart for the week ending January 8, Wedding Crashers generated an estimated $12.11 million in rental revenue, more than double second-ranked Four Brothers, the previous week’s top renter.
