In 2022, Celine Dion was diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome, a rare neurological condition. The Canadian singer is now opening up about her health struggles in Prime Video’s new documentary, I Am: Celine Dion, directed by Irene Taylor. Celine’s oldest son, René-Charles Angélil, is also featured in the new documentary. Earlier this month, he accompanied his mother to I Am: Celine Dion’s New York screening. René-Charles also joined his mother at the 2024 Grammy Awards earlier this year.
Who is Celine Dion’s oldest son René-Charles Angélil?
According to People Magazine, René-Charles was born on January 25, 2001. Celine’s oldest son is named after her late husband, René Angélil, who passed away in 2016 due to cancer. When René-Charles was a teen, Celine told the outlet that he was “very athletic” and played hockey and golf. Moreover, the singer was spotted cheering for him at one of his hockey games a few years later.
René-Charles, 23, opted for a music career, like his parents. He released two songs on SoundCloud under his stage name, Big Tip, in 2018. Montreal Gazette reported that René-Charles, who was 17 then, didn’t tell Celine about the tracks until they hit the top of the platform’s Canadian R&B charts. The artist told the outlet that although his mother was “stunned at first,” she loved the songs. René-Charles added that his mother has been supportive of his passion. He then went on to release his EP, Casino.5, in 2021.
Besides René-Charles, Celine has twin sons, Nelson and Eddy Angélil. The documentary I Am: Celine Dion includes footage from Celine’s home throughout the years—from the birth of her three sons to treasured moments with their late father, reported ABC News. In the documentary, viewers can also see glimpses of the singer’s childhood with her siblings.
I Am: Celine Dion is currently available to watch on Prime Video.
