WrestleMania 40 (stylized as WrestleMania XL) was one of the biggest WrestleMania tournaments ever. It lasted about two days and attracted more than 140,000 people. While WWE is known for its quality wrestling, it occasionally also produces stellar documentaries.
After the conclusion of WrestleMania 40, WWE’s YouTube channel released the trailer for a documentary titled WrestleMania XL: Behind the Curtain. Reports suggest that this project will delve into the storylines involving WWE Superstars like The Rock, Cody Rhodes, and Roman Reigns. Additionally, it will explore the build-up to the occasion and feature behind-the-scenes footage. It was scheduled to be released a few days after the event. However, it did not come out.
Due to this delay, viewers have started speculating the reason behind this. Recently, there has been a rumor that Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock, has caused this hold-up because he wants to approve every frame of the documentary. However, this is far from the truth. According to Wrestling Inc., one of The Rock’s close associates’, Brian Gewirtz, recently appeared on The Masked Man Show and revealed the actual reason. He stated that the 52-year-old wrestler had nothing to do with the postponement and, logically, this long wait was justified.
According to WrestleMania XL: Behind the Curtain‘s official trailer on YouTube, its synopsis reads, “Triple H, The Rock, Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes, Seth “Freakin” Rollins and more peel back the curtain. As they take you behind the scenes of the wildest Road to WrestleMania in recent history as WrestleMania XL: Behind the Curtain airs exclusively on YouTube, this Wednesday.”
Brian Gewirtz revealed that WrestleMania XL: Behind the Curtain’s runtime is more than an hour
Brian Gewirtz is a prominent name in WWE’s behind-the-scenes endeavors. During his appearance on The Masked Man Show, he stated that the company made an error in promoting the upcoming documentary. Back when the trailer was released, it was far from being ready for release. Gewirtz said, “I think there was an error in terms of promoting it so soon because it wasn’t ready to come out. So, that was an error that was made. But this was a doc that I think went from 11 minutes to 45 minutes, now it’s over an hour.”
Interestingly, he added that viewers will thoroughly enjoy WrestleMania XL: Behind the Curtain, and as per his understanding, there will be an update regarding its release soon. He said, “And it’s pretty awesome, and it will be coming out in some form pretty soon, is my understanding.”
Also, Gewirtz gave his opinion on the rivalry between The Rock and the current Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, Cody Rhodes. Although his revelation was restricted, he insinuated that their story was far from over. Gewirtz said, “You have no idea what’s coming next, and that’s I think kind of…there’s a lot of Darth Vader/Luke Skywaker to Rock and Cody Rhodes, even though, you know…obviously, he’s not his father or anything. But there’s still a lot of…parallels between that…That’s, I feel, going to continue, because he flat out said it.”
WrestleMania 40 took place on April 6 and 7, 2024. WrestleMania XL: Behind the Curtain was initially scheduled to be released on the Wednesday after the event.
