On March 14, 2015, authorities apprehended real estate heir Robert Durst in New Orleans. The arrest came just one day before the finale of HBO’s documentary, The Jinx. The documentary primarily focused on Durst and his alleged crimes over the years. However, a crucial piece of evidence assisted the police in arresting him for a gruesome murder that took place in 2000.
In December of the same year, police found Robert Durst’s close friend, Susan Berman, dead in Los Angeles. Investigators revealed that Berman died because of a gunshot wound to her head, per Vulture. The suspected killer sent a note to “Beverley Hills” police on the same day of the murder. The note indicated that there was a “cadaver” in her house. Almost 15 years after the murder, the note turned out to be significant in apprehending Durst.
As per The Los Angeles Times, Robert Durst’s adopted son found a letter his father wrote to Susan Berman. The letter had the same errors as the one sent to authorities, after which he gave the letter to one of the members of the documentary. Subsequently, the documentary showed how the makers confronted Durst with the letter. The latter started behaving unusually during the interview, and after it was over, he went to the bathroom.
Robert Durst started talking to himself without knowing his microphone was still recording. At one point, he said, “Killed them all. Of course.” After police arrested him, he was charged with first-degree murder. The jury found Durst guilty and sentenced him to life in prison, per The New York Times. However, in January 2022, Durst died due to cardiac arrest at the San Joaquin General Hospital due to cardiac arrest. He was 78.
Will there be a second season of The Jinx?
While The Jinx helped get Robert Durst prosecuted, the first part of the documentary ended with what happened after the interview. Now, HBO has announced that the second part of the highly anticipated documentary will be released on April 21, 2024. The first episode of The Jinx: Part Two will air on April 21, while new episodes will air weekly on HBO. The six-part series would also be available for streaming on HBO Max.
The trailer indicates that part two of the documentary series showcases what happened after the confession. The clip also reveals how many people were always there to help him in any circumstances.
The Jinx: Part One went on to win Outstanding Documentary at the Primetime Emmys.
