Paramount+’s Milli Vanilli: What Happened to the Scandalous Pop Duo and Where Are They Now?

Paramount+ will revisit the story about R&B group Milli Vanilli in an upcoming documentary that will be released on Tuesday, October 24, 2023. Titled Milli Vanilli, the documentary will dive deeper into the lip-sync controversy that stripped them of their fame and successful careers.

The duo’s record-breaking sales were tarnished when it was revealed that they hadn’t contributed a single note to their songs. Their manufactured image was exposed after a disastrous MTV performance in 1989. The incident triggered an investigation on the duo, leading their producer, Frank Farian, to confess that Fab Morvan and Rob Pilatus of Milli Vanilli never sang on the records.

After Farian made those comments, the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences revoked the group’s Best New Artist award. The group had to return their Best New Artist accolade. This made them the first-ever Grammy recipients to return their coveted trophies.

Where is Milli Vanilli now?

According to Variety, Morvan currently lives in Amsterdam and has active social media. As per his official website, he is available for bookings.

The lip-syncing fiasco made Milli Vanilli a national embarrassment, after which they could never rebound from the controversy. While speaking in an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Pilatus admitted that they “sold their souls to the devil” and “let down” their families, friends, and fans in order to achieve success.

Naturally, Milli Vanilli faced severe consequences after their infamous lip-syncing controversy and lost all their credibility. However, Pilatus and Morvan were determined to prove their worth as musicians. The duo then came out with a self-titled album titled Rob & Fab in 1993.

Unfortunately, the album failed to garner commercial success and became another disaster for the group. The group also revived Milli Vanilli and recorded the comeback album Back and in Attack in 1998. However, just before the album’s promotional tour, Pilatus was reportedly found dead in a hotel room in Germany due to an accidental drug overdose. The album was never released.

Years after Pilatus’ tragic death, Morvan went on to release his first solo album, Love Revolution, in 2003. He has continued to release singles since then.
