The ongoing romantic fantasy C-drama The Legend of Shen Li released episode 5 on March 19, 2024. It features Lin Gengxin and Zhao Liying in the lead roles. The episode primarily focuses on Shen Li (Zhao Liying) opening up about her feelings for Xing Zhi (Lin Gengxin). He, who is in love with Gu Chengjin, looks around his palace. Soon, she discovers a hidden compartment in the basement. As she steps inside, she is introduced to a strange woman lying on a mystical bed.
A spirit-like dark entity enters the room and tells her that this is the woman whom Chengjin truly loves. He continues saying that as long as she lives, Chengjin will not even look at her.
Meanwhile, Xing Zhi enjoys the night breeze at his house, drinking tea while Shen Li sleeps in her room. She senses that a group of intruders has entered the house. Without wasting any more time, she steps outside and bounds them using her spells. But she gets a vivid vision of her master in heaven, who is disappointed in her. Xing Zhi arrives at the spot and discovers Shen Li standing there frozen.

Shen Li wonders why her spells don’t work on him. Xing Zhi wipes her tears and comforts her. Furthermore, he shields her as he does not want her to see the bloodshed and suffering of the enemies. Together, they go to Chengjin’s palace to confront him. From the beginning, Shen Li can sense something strange about the place.
As the demon lord, she is able to see many undeveloped demons scattered around the place. But what surprises her is that Xing Zhi can see them, too. His kind demeanor tugs at her heartstrings. She reminisces how Xing Zhi has been kind to her since their first encounter. She would be dead by now if it was not for him.
In episode 5 of The Legend of Shen Li, Shen Li decides to confess to him about her feelings. She tells Xing Zhi that she has taken a liking to him. But her heart breaks as he does not pay much attention to what she says. She tries to pull him in for a kiss, but he moves away. She finds this shyness amusing.
As the demons grow impatient, Shen Li and Xing Zhi decide to find Chengjin. They arrive at the basement to find him battling against He, who seems to be possessed by an evil entity. After she attacks Shen Li, she successfully chases her away.
The mysterious woman turns out to be Chengjin’s wife. She went into this unconscious state after enduring fatal injuries while protecting her husband. Shen Li and Xing Zhi work together to bind the demons and fight against He.
Meanwhile, Shen Li’s loyal companion, Mo Fang, visits her from the immortal realm and brings her the news that her master has sent people after her. When She Li used her spiritual powers, she got noticed. Mo Fang urges her to leave the mortal world as soon as possible.
