The Isekai anime genre has continued to grow in popularity with each passing day. The popular genre has fielded some fantastic titles like That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime and Mushoku Tensei, which have helped the genre garner much attention today.
Most Isekai protagonists tend to be overpowered, with common sense not being applicable in terms of their strength. However, not all Isekai Mc’s are strong, but they make up for it with their unique personalities and characters. With that said, here are some of the weakest Isekai protagonists.
Natsuki Subaru, ReZero: Starting Life in Another World
Re Zero is one of the best isekai anime in the world today. Its fantastic story and characters have made it one of the best the genre has produced. It follows the life of Natsuki Subaru, who is transported to another world, expecting his epic story to start. He then discovers he has no magic ability. However, after attempting to help the half-elf girl find her insignia and dying for it, he realizes he has the ability to go back in time after dying.
While the ability is helpful, Subaru’s is still weak, as shown by his number of unnecessary deaths. Despite being weak, he is dependable and ready to give his life to a loved one.
Myne, Ascendance of a Bookworm
After being killed by a collapsing bookshelf, Urano Motosu awakens and is reborn as the sick and weak Myne. Myne is extremely unhappy because her sick body doesn’t allow her to do anything she wants to do, and to top it all off, she is a commoner. However, after an illness at 5, she regains all her memories as Urano Motosu.
With her love of reading restored, she aims to create books that will be available to the public. However, with her frail body, that is easier said than done. Ascendance of a Bookworm is an interesting isekai anime for those looking to sit down and have a good time.
Kazuya Souma, How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom
Kazuya Souma is summoned via the hero summoning ritual to the Elfrieden Kingdom. Initially, the king tries to use him as a bargaining chip to stop the war; afraid of dying, Kazuma shows his worth to the king and his men.
The king then decides to relinquish the throne to Kazuya. Despite being a hero, Kazuya had no skills that would be effective in battle but had the mind of a tactical genius. He completely transforms the Elfrieden Kingdom into a prosperous land thanks to his intelligence and earthly knowledge.
Kazuma, KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World!
Sato Kazuma lives a sad and pathetic life as a shut-in, and even in death, it doesn’t get better for him. After dying pathetically, Kazuma is put in front of the goddess Aqua to decide his fate. The goddess reveals he didn’t save anyone, as the girl was never in danger in the first place. She went on to reveal that he had died of a panic attack and had wet himself in the process.
While the goddess mocked him, she allowed him to reincarnate into a fantasy world with any object of his choosing. Due to the goddesses mocking him, he brings her with him. Failing to bring in any object or skill, Kazuma must now find a way to defeat the demon lord with his unusual party members. Konosuba is a brilliant Isekai anime despite having one of the weakest protagonists in anime.
Saitou, Handyman Saitou in Another World
The anime follows Saitou, an everyday man with nothing going on—an average job, an unathletic lifestyle, and a subpar life. One day, he wakes up in another world, hoping for a fresh start. However, his abilities are limited to opening locked treasure chests and repairing equipment. While his skills may seem underwhelming, he became an indispensable party member. Despite being a weak protagonist, his skills make him a character to be revered.
