McDonald’s X Studio Pierrot: Everything you need to know
As mentioned earlier, McDonald’s announced the news of their upcoming collaboration with Studio Pierrot. Home to one of the big three anime, Naruto, the animation studio is considered among the biggest animation studios currently.
While the latest trailer was only 15 seconds, there was much to dissect. The video shows a few anime tropes and has some familiar references. It also features an anime-style battle between two unknown characters over French fries. While this video likely indicates an upcoming advertisement for McDonald’s, there’s not a lot of information to support that claim.
McDonald’s is no stranger to anime collaborations. Tetsuo Hara, the illustrator for the popular show The Fist of the North Star, made an animated advertisement for the Samurai Mac, a temporary menu item. The company also released Night Mac, which combined fast food with a relaxed slice-of-life vibe.
Although McDonald’s has done a lot of anime collaborations, those were mainly streamlined to their Japanese market. However, since this trailer was posted on their general account, it could mean an international outreach plan. As such, this speaks to the popularity and relevance of anime today.
Stay tuned for more updates on the upcoming collaboration.
