Jujutsu Kaisen is outdoing itself with each new episode – and the fandom will consider that an understatement. Studio MAPPA is getting all the deserved praise for its work on choreography in the last few episodes of the anime series. Story-wise, the anime viewers finally understand why the manga readers consider the Shibuya arc to be one of the best arcs in the series. With its shocking episodes in line, one after the other, the recent episode was not any different in terms of keeping the otakus on their toes.
In the episode, the battle between Jogo and Sukuna takes center stage. The unexpected twist occurs as the King of Curses surprisingly defeats Jogo using fire-manipulation techniques. The intriguing thing about this is that he is generally known for his slashing techniques and his Malevolent Shrine. This departure from Sukuna’s typical methods became a standout moment. It also raised questions about the mechanics of his newfound fire attributes in the series.
How and why can Sukuna use fire?
In the show, those with an innate cursed technique can wield various abilities as extensions of their primary talent. This challenges the assumption that Sukuna’s innate cursed technique is limited to slashing. The Fire Arrow, being a unique manifestation, suggests Sukuna possesses specific virtues that remain veiled in the narrative. Inevitably, the story has yet to unveil the origins and extent of Sukuna’s powers. This naturally leaves fans to speculate on the nature of these powers, and the reality of his fundamental talent.
Sukuna’s realization that he does not need extra effort against Jogo adds complexity to the understanding of Sukuna’s capabilities. So much so, that fans who are well-versed with the manga find Sukuna’s use of fire to be quite bewildering, too. This is because even in the manga, Sukuna’s true form and unleashed horrors have not revealed his true ability.
Of course, it is only by following up on the episodes and chapters of Jujutsu Kaisen that fans will know what to expect. They will know whether the mysterious air around Sukuna will be unveiled. As for now, not much is certain. But, one thing the fans know for sure is that Sukuna and his reputation as the King of Curses is solidifying with each time he makes a cameo – and the fandom is all for it!
