A sequel film to Sword Art Online The Movie -Progressive- Aria of a Starless Night has been announced, just a couple of days after the film launched in theaters in Japan this week.

The news was confirmed by the official Sword Art Online Twitter account, which shared the news early on Monday morning. The second film was given the title of Sword Art Online The Movie -Progressive- Scherzo of Deep Night and given a release date of 2022 for when fans can expect it to launch in theaters.
Sword Art Online The Movie -Progressive- Aria of a Starless Night launched in Japan on Sunday and will arrive in theaters in the United States and Canada on December 3, 2021, with Australian and New Zealand theaters getting the film on December 9, 2021, and those in the United Kingdom and Ireland getting the film at an unannounced time.

Sword Art Online originally was a self-published web novel series by Kawahara that was released back in 2002. The Japanese light novel series, which was written by Kawahara and illustrated by abec, was first published by Dengeki Bunko in 2009. The anime television adaptation made its debut in December 2012.
