Nichijou Manga Returns After Six-Year Hiatus

The beloved manga series Nichijou will finally be returning to the pages of Monthly Shonen Ace after the series creator Keiichi Arawi took a six-year break from drawing it.

Arawi announced the news on his Twitter account, also sharing a special illustration and sneak peek of the upcoming cover of the December 2021 Monthly Shonen Ace. There’s no word on how long this run of Nichijou will last, but Arawi simply said he “wants to draw.”

For anyone unfamiliar, Nichijou is a surreal slice-of-life manga that follows the lives of the various people living in the small town of Tokisadame and sports a trademark adorable art style. Here’s the official description from the series’ Funimation page, “Follow the adventures of three ordinary girls as they learn their most important lessons the hard way. Meanwhile, a pocket-sized professor makes life difficult for a robot who just wants to be normal.”

Nichijou first debuted in Monthly Shonen Ace in 2006, with the series’ run compiled into 10 different volumes that are all available in English. A 26-episode anime adaption was also produced by Kyoto Animation.

The December issue of Monthly Shonen Ace will go on sale on October 26 in Japan. Considering the past of the series, Nichijou’s return will likely be translated into English sooner or later.
