Fruits Basket Spinoff Based on Tohru’s Parents Announced

A Fruits Basket spinoff focusing on Tohru’s parents has been revealed.

Revealed on the anime’s official website alongside a commemorative video, the anime Kyoko to Katsuya no Monogatari is set to premiere sometime in 2022. Not many details were shared, but it will explore the back story of Tohru’s parents Kyoko and Katsuya. A specific date for when the show will air has not been announced.

It was also announced a stage play based on the manga is in the works. It is also scheduled for 2022.

The 6-minute commemorative video is meant to celebrate the end of Fruits Basket The Final Season. It features messages from the cast and series creator Natsuki Takaya. You can check out the trailer below.

The third and final season made its debut on the Funimation streaming service back in March, two weeks before its Japan television debut in April. Both Funimation and Crunchyroll streamed the anime as it aired in Japan.

Yoshihide Ibata directed the third and final season of the anime, with Taku Kishimoto in charge of scripts. Masaru Shindo handled character designs once again. Takaya served as executive producer.

Serialized in Hana to Yume between 1998 and 2006, Fruits Basket began as a manga series written and illustrated by Takaya. It received a couple of sequels titled Fruits Basket Another and The Three Musketeers Arc.

Premiering in 2019, the anime television adaptation of Fruits Basket is produced by TMS Entertainment. The Studio Deen produced and Akitaro Daichi-directed anime adaptation premiered back in 2001.
