First Batch of Films Announced for New Directors/New Films ’13

Every year, the Film Society of Lincoln Center teams with the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) for a compelling film series dedicated to new and unknown filmmakers as well as the works of filmmaking auteurs with new films. It’s called New Directors/New Films and this year, it takes place at the two organization’s venues in New York City between March 20 to March 31.

Yesterday, the Film Society announced the first seven films that will play in this year’s festival and the two that jump out at us are Shane Carruth’s Upstream Color, his follow-up to the Sundance Jury Prize-winning Primer, and Sarah (Take This Waltz) Polley’s highly-personal documentary Stories We Tell. The former is premiering at the Sundance Film Festival this week and is set for theatrical release on April 5, while the latter premiered at the Toronto Film Festival last September and will be released by Roadside Attractions some time this year.

The other films announced for New Directors/New Films are:

Tobias Lindholm’s A Hijacking

Rachid Djaïdani’s Hold Back

Matías Piñeiro’s Viola

JP Sniadecki and Libbie Dina Cohn’s People’s Park

Emil Hristow’s The Color of the Chameleon
