Synopsis:

This film was originally released in on the Disney Channel in 2002. The following is the description from the DVD cover:

“Teen sensation Lindsay Lohan stars as Lexy Gold, budding journalist and fashion queen of Millington Preparatory School in Manhattan. Together with her best pal Jennifer (Brenda Song), Lexy’s always on the lookout for the latest scoop and the latest style. When one of her teachers mysteriously disappears, Lexy goes from school advice columnist to determined investigative reporter. And with a little help from her friends Jennifer and Gabe, and her street-smart editor Jack, Lexy vows to get to the bottom of the mystery. Before they know it, they find themselves hot on the trail of a story bigger than they could have ever imagined!”

Get A Clue is rated TV G.

The Movie:

Simply put, Get a Clue is not very good at all.

First of all, it’s probably the worst performance that Lindsay Lohan has ever delivered. Compared to her roles in The Parent Trap, Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen, and Freaky Friday, Lohan practically sleep walks through this movie. If this had been her first role, it’s questionable whether she ever would have worked again. As Lexy Gold Lohan displays very little personality and her character is a bit of a snob.

The other problem with the movie is that the story is rather absurd. The whole plot with the disappearing teacher isn’t very realistic, many of the adult characters are morons, and there are numerous plot holes surrounding the mystery. Another example of the weakness is a random homeless character that is seen here and there throughout the film acting crazy and running from security guards. By the end of the film he is revealed to be some politician researching homeless in New York (I guess by imitating them, trespassing, and acting insane). All in all it was very poorly written.

Among the rest of the cast, the only standout is Brenda Song as Jennifer, Lexy’s best friend. She shows a little attitude and spunk, plus she’s cute. Charles Shaughnessy from The Nanny also has a small role as Detective Meany, but he’s not that great.

In the end I’d have to recommend just passing on Get a Clue. The only people it might entertain are pre-teen girls, but they can find better entertainment geared towards them elsewhere.

The Extras:

The only bonus features included on this DVD is the “Never-Before-Seen Alternate Ending”. In this alternate ending another character is revealed to be the villain. It ends up being the large black teacher from the kid’s school. It’s not very flattering to teachers, black women, or large women, so it becomes easy to see why it was dropped. The whole sequence ends up being almost a half hour long and it quickly wears out its welcome.

The Bottom Line:

Unless you’re willing to watch anything Lindsay Lohan is in, no matter how bad, pass on Get a Clue.
