Milo Gibson Laurence Fishburne to star sports drama Brother’s Keeper

Milo Gibson (Hacksaw Ridge), the son of legendary actor/director Mel Gibson, has just signed on to star alongside Laurence Fishburne in the sports drama Brother’s Keeper for Winter State Entertainment, according to Deadline.

Brother’s Keeper is described as an inspirational sports drama that follows the true story of West Texas’ 2009 Abilene High School football team — underdogs who rallied against odds to win their state championship and is said to be in the vein of Friday Night Lights. According to the report, production is already underway with the hopes of wrapping in November. The crew is using Shotwell Stadium in Abilene, Texas to film its football sequences.

Based on the book by Al Pickett and Chad Mitchell, Brother’s Keeper will be directed by Todd Randall for a  2019 wide release.

Gibson recently inked a deal to join the cast of Millennium Films‘ action drama film The Outpost opposite Orlando Bloom (Pirates of the Caribbean, Lord of the Rings), Scott Eastwood (Suicide Squad, Pacific Rim 2: Uprising) and Caleb Landry Jones (Get Out). Gibson will play the character of Captain Robert Yllescas, a soldier who was unfortunately killed during a mission in Afghanistan.

Fishburne was recently seen in Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp, and will reprise his role as the Bowery King in the upcoming John Wick 3: Parabellum.
