Seth Rogen Comedy Flarsky Moves Up to Summer 2019

Test audiences apparently went wild for the Charlize Theron and Seth Rogen comedy Flarsky, causing Lionsgate to move the picture to a prime summer release, according to Variety. The film will now open on June 7, 2019 directly against The Secret Life of Pets 2 and in-between the sequel Godzilla: King of the Monsters on May 31 and the Men in Black reboot starring Chris Hemsworth on June 14.

Originally, the film was set to premiere on February 8, but test audiences evidently compared the film favorably to Rogen’s earlier smash-hit comedy Knocked Up and awarded it scores above 95%. Obviously, the studio senses box office potential and decided to position the film in the same slot that helped Ocean’s 8 score $138 million domestically this summer. Lionsgate is also looking to strike a first-look deal with Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s Point Grey Pictures for both film and television projects.

In the movie, Fred Flarsky (Seth Rogen), an unemployed journalist battered by his own misfortune, endeavors to pursue his childhood crush and babysitter who now happens to be one of the most powerful and unattainable women on the planet (Charlize Theron).

The Interview‘s Dan Sterling wrote the script. Jonathan Levine, who previously worked with Rogen on 50/50 and The Night Before, directed.

A Point Grey, Denver & Delilah and Good Universe production, Flarsky will be produced by A.J. Dix, Evan Goldberg, Beth Kono, and James Weaver alongside Rogen and Theron. Sterling will serve as executive producer alongside Joe Drake and Nathan Kahane. Alex McAtee will be overseeing for Point Grey with Erin Westerman doing so for Good Universe.
