Following Disney Firing, Rival Studios Are Eager to Hire James Gunn

An extensive new story from The Hollywood Reporter reveals that following James Gunn’s dismissal from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 many rival studios in Hollywood are eager to work with the filmmaker.

No executives would go on the record for the story, but THR reports that “major players” are all interested in working with Gunn including Marvel rival Warner Bros. and unnamed Oscar-winning producers. Formal offers to Gunn aren’t being made until his exit negotiations with Disney are completed, with sources saying that Gunn might receive an estimated payout of $7 million to $10 million.

It remains to be seen how the situation will end up however as the outlet cites there is “hope through the talks that Gunn could return in some fashion” to the world of Marvel Studios. The studio is also reportedly considering using the script that Gunn penned for the film, the absence of which is a deal breaker for co-star Dave Bautista.

Back in July, Walt Disney Studios dismissed Gunn from the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 due to Gunn’s past controversial tweets. Despite this, the Guardians of the Galaxy‘s main cast including Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Michael Rooker, Sean Gunn and Bautista, who all still supported him and asked for Disney to reinstate Gunn as the film’s director.

Earlier this year, director James Gunn revealed that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 would be released in 2020. Filming was scheduled to start this Fall in Atlanta, but it is unknown if the film will keep to this schedule. The third Guardians film was meant to be the final outing for the original team lineup, and set up future films in the cosmic arena of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
