Amanda Seyfried Joins Ventimiglia in The Art of Racing in the Rain

Deadline reports that Amanda Seyfried will play Milo Ventimiglia’s wife Eve in Fox 2000’s The Art of Racing in the Rain, based on the 2008 best-selling novel by Garth Stein.

Stein’s book focuses on a family dog named Enzo who evaluated his life through the lessons learned by his human owner, a professional race-car driver named Denny Swift. The story is described as a heart-wrenching but deeply funny and ultimately uplifting tale of family, love, loyalty, and hope — a captivating look at the wonders and absurdities of human life as only a dog could tell it.

Simon Curtis (Goodbye Christopher Robin) will direct the adaptation, with Neil Moritz producing alongside Tania Landau and Patrick Dempsey, who at one point was attached to star in the film. Universal picked up the book in 2009 when Dempsey (Grey’s Anatomy) was in talks to star, but development took its time. Eventually, Dempsey stepped aside and the project stalled on the development track.

In 2016, Disney picked up the book with producer Moritz attached, but that stalled out as well. Fox 2000 is the latest home for the project who picked up the book last year.
