After his critically-acclaimed biographical comedy, The Disaster Artist, James Franco will return to the director’s chair with the upcoming sci-fi thriller, Future World. Set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, the film follows a boy named Prince as he searches the barren desert for a mythical medicine to save his dying mother, fighting against a deranged raider and drug queenpin with the help of an android looking to find its soul.
The trailer, released today, offers viewers a look at the manic world of the Future, hinting at a world ravaged by war with only the violent and psychotic left standing to rule over gladiator fights and smaller groups struggling to survive. The shots shown do show that Franco has a firm grip on stylish directing, breaking out into his first action film with Future World in explosive fashion.
In addition to Franco starring as the insane Warlord, the film also stars Milla Jovovich (Resident Evil), Lucy Liu (Kill Bill), Suki Waterhouse (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies), Method Man (Keanu) and Snoop Dogg (The Joker’s Wild). Franco is directing the film alongside Bruce Theirry Cheung, who has been riding the indie scene and has worked with Franco in the past.
Future World will be released by Lionsgate Premiere in select theaters and On Demand on May 25, 2018.
