According to Variety, director Michael Showalter is building off the momentum of his hit, Oscar-nominated comedy The Big Sick to direct The Help co-stars Jessica Chastain and Octavia Spencer in an untitled Christmas comedy from Universal Pictures.
Spencer and Chastain will star in the film as “two women fighting the elements to make it home for Christmas.” Chastain wrote the treatment for the movie with Kelly Carmichael, which screenwriter Peter Chiarelli (Crazy Rich Asians, The Proposal) will pen into the full script. Chastain will also produce the film for her own production company, Freckle Films.
Octavia Spencer and Jessica Chastain first worked togther in 2011’s The Help and this marks their first collaboration since that film. Both were nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy award for their work in the movie, with Spencer taking home the Oscar. Since then they’ve each gained an additional nomination for their work with Chastain being nominated for 2012’s Zero Dark Thirty and Spencer being nominated for 2016’s Hidden Figures.
